Hörbert – Child's Radio in Stone

Hörbert – Child's Radio in Stone
(Commissioned work during my apprenticeship)
This work was created as a special commission during my apprenticeship.
It is a detailed replica of the children's radio ‘Hörbert’, the favourite toy of the deceased child.
The radio was made out of marble and is part of a grave decoration.
My contribution
-
Complete reproduction of the radio in stone
-
Detailed work on the handle, switches and buttons
-
A special mechanism on the volume knob that can even be opened to store a small message inside
Challenge
The work required the finest precision, especially with the tiny controls. The on/off switch was smaller than my fingertip and still had to be robust and cleanly finished. The handle was also a technical challenge.
Response
The result evoked strong emotions, both among the relatives and at Hörbert itself. They reposted the work on their website and social media channels.
‘We all have tears in our eyes – it's so beautiful!’
– Comment from Hörbert

hoerbert_com #stoneart 💜 Today we have a very emotional story that is so touching that we don't want to keep it from you! Hörbert in marble. This masterpiece of craftsmanship was created as a grave decoration. Hörbert was the favorite toy of a child who sadly passed away too soon. We deeply regret the loss of the parents. Thank you to @lenyra.art for creating this wonderful Hörbert during his apprenticeship at Scheidegger & Kunz Steinkunst Bildhauerei (@sksteinkunst)! We are very touched.
